Ali Asperheim is a Michigan-raised filmmaker with nine years of international experience in Copenhagen, where she co-founded the film club Empatheater and premiered the short film b-side b-side at CPH:DOX in 2022. Her project Slipface recently received support from the Danish Arts Foundation for original score. Now based in Los Angeles, Ali directs short films and music videos alongside commercial work. Her belief in storytelling as a tool for social change is reflected in project with nonprofits like Doctors Without Borders and Freemuse International.

Ali’s films explore the tension between intimate diaristic narratives and the lingering effects of societal pressure - and often focus on individuals searching for missing parts of themselves.
Shot through a femme absurd gaze and driven by a deep trust in collaborative partnerships with other artists, her work blurs the line between fiction and memoir. This approach captures her subjects at their most multi-dimensional and authentic, revealing both uniquely personal and universal threads.
